Monday Metal

So one of the kids on American Idol wants to be a rock star. He looks and sounds like a 70's rock god, say Paul Rodgers. Look at today's Greta Van Fleet. They're not wearing coats and ties and they're not wearing baggy shorts and flannel. They look like bedraggled 70's refugees.

Who can blame these young men. Though the 1970s is notorious for the Disco, the decade really was rock's high point wasn't it? In this era one had several power chord driven bands led by singers with amazing, hard gravel voices. Again, Paul Rodgers.

By the early 80's hard rock had died and synth new wave dominated the charts. Our own first favorite song was Devo's Whip It. We really don't know why. Rock was clearly dying, but revived by the late 80's metal explosion, which took over completely by 1987.

Resolved: The proper rock uniform is a long sleeved button down, ripped jeans, long hair and scraggly facial hair.
