Thursday Commercial Break

Like we said, we're kind of interested in Funk lately. Here's ESPN advertising the WNBA, another part of the late 90's fad for retro-70's sheik:
It is impossible to be cooler than the lead singer. That's just science, folks.

We saw this every morning that summer while getting ready for our lifeguarding gig, to which we could walk by the way. Living in Northern Virginia, boy it was hot. Plus 95 every damn day with humidity that just killed.

That was definitely not cool.

We knew we'd lived in NOVA too long when we moved to New Jersey in July of 2001 and everyone was complaining about the heat wave to which we replied, 'Heat wave?'

Anyway, the WNBAYs campaign helps mark the decline of ESPN for us. Anyone else notice how the spot is really about the ad, and not the WNBA? They barely remember to mention the product.

Great fun though. Follow the link you'll see a half dozen from the campaign.
