Saturday Updates

We had a great week at the gym, two days running, two says lifting. We admit to getting bored with the lifting. That's two + months on this program and we're quite happy with the results. How long to continue?

Alert reader(s) will notice the new additions to the bottom of the magazine articles tab. Our old stuff just keeps popping up on the internet. Sometimes we get the urge to write a new magazine article, but why? Besides, our books are stowed away, and we have no plans to reshelve them. The age of the William T. Stroock Memorial Library is over.

The more we think about it, the more we like the idea of stopping this blog at post 5000.

[And do what, knobhead-Ed?]

We focused singularly on The Great Salvation of 1976 this week and things went great till we got to the final three chapters. These were a mess and we've spent the last few days cleaning them up. We axed some scenes and at this point the MS stands at 70,000 words. Which is not enough words.

The first chapter in question deals with education. There are a half dozen scenes in schools and libraries. There's a lot of people huddled together listening to President Rockefeller's weekly speeches and Paul Harvey's news updates. This is how we moved the plot along.

The second chapter in question deals with political machinations and the run up to the November election. There's a lot of wrangling, a lot of planning, a lot of meetings about who the Dems are going to nominate and who Rockefeller's veep will be.

The final chapter was not really yet a thing, but there is an inauguration held at the Greenbrier on 1/20/77. We'll have to wrap up the Matt saga; but we really don't know how this ends.

We also had to fix some Presidential Reconstruction Commission scenes. These lay the groundwork for various reconstruction projects, 'We'll need to dredge the James River in Virginia and build a new port'.  Sitting on the commission are: Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Don Shula, Carl Sagan, George Will, Milton Friedman, George Steinbrenner, Ronald Reagan, John Chancellor.

So there's what we'll be doing the rest of the month, at the end of which we expect the MS will be ready to go.
