Iran's Bitter Morning After Pill

Good morning Stroock's Books reader(s).

This morning we write emotionally. When the Iranian attack began, we didn't dare think it'd accomplish so little. This wasn't a symbolic attack by Iran. This was a costly attempt to damage Israel and slaughter Jews. They damaged 'slightly' an Israel army base and killed a little Bedouin girl in the Negev. This was supposed to be a big night for Iran and it wasn't. Iran failed. The Mullahs are warning against Isael retaliating. To quote a movie villain, the Mullah's are in a position, unsuitable to make demands.

Iran launched 185 drones, 110 ballistic missiles, and 36 cruise missiles at Israel. No drones entered Israeli territory and the Israelis intercepted at least a couple of Iranian ballistic missiles in space. The Israelis shot down 99 percent of incoming Iranian ordnance. This is the greatest Israeli aerial victory since the IAF went 86-0 against the Syrian air force over the Bekka Valley in 1982. A great night for the IDF, a great night for Israel's technology sector*, and a great night for Israel. My word.

American, British, Jordanian and French air and naval units helped shoot down Iranian drones. They are The Righteous among the Nations. These were fighting alongside the Israelis. We feel kind of like that French farmer in The Longest Day drinking champagne and cheering like a maniac when the allied fleet appears off the Normandy coast.

On the downside Iran showed it can conduct a strategic bombardment of Israel. Who knows how long Iran could sustain such an attack? The Mullahs claim the attack 'changed the equation'. Iran also learned much about Israel's aerial defense. That defense cost over a billion dollars last night. Who knows how long Israel can afford such a defense?

We admit to being slightly disappointed this morning to see Israel has yet to retaliate. Reports say that Joe told Bibi to 'take the win' and not retaliate, since the attack did almost no damage. We hate to admit it, but there's a pretty compelling case for Israel doing nothing here. The Israeli war cabinet meets in a couple of hours as of this writing. Tonight? We shall see.

On to Will's Good Idea for 4/14/24...you know those 800 word articles we'd right for the Kremlin or 19FortyFive? Why not just write them for our Substack? Once a week?

*Our grandfather always said the best way to help Israel is to contribute to the Technion Institue of Technology. And so we have.
