Various Jewy Things

Guten Morgen, Stroock's Books Volk.

We had a busy and productive Sunday working on the Pancho Villa story, landscaping the chronic drainage issue under the deck, hitting the gym, and then barbequing. Ja, the weather is finally turning. [Staying with the German thing? You know, we beat Jerry in two World Wars-Ed] With our help. Ha!

Oldest Daughter returned from her whirlwind tour of several Boston universities, including the Jewey one, Brandeis. That's eight universities now, with only the University of Delaware left to visit. Ah we're getting nostalgic, as Mrs. Stroock, a Delawarean, attended UD while we attended a non-Jesuit university in Washington DC. At least a couple of times a month we'd drive two hours up the I-95 corridor to visit that girl. One mortgage and three daughters later, here we are.

Related, The Times of Israel reports, 'An overwhelming majority of Jewish parents of high school juniors and seniors say the October 7 onslaught on Israel and its aftermath have affected which college their children plan to attend, according to a new survey commissioned by the Jewish campus group Hillel International.' Absolutely goddamn right. Muslim students and their allies conduct weekly pogroms...at Rutgers.

Good, via Red State: 'On Friday, the President of Pomona College in California threw down the gauntlet, having an entire mob of "protesters" arrested for trespassing in an administrative building. She then summarily suspended them all and banned the non-students from campus.' More of this, please. And, 'Meet Jack Petocz, who is now no longer a student at Vanderbilt University after being expelled for a "protest" that occurred in late March.' We enjoy Petocz' pain and hope he sues Vandy so a wider public may take pleasure in his humiliation.

World War 1990: Norway adjacent, 'Norway plans to raise its military spending by an accumulated 600 billion crowns ($56 billion) through 2036 to bolster its defence against Russia and other security challenges, the NATO member country's government said on Friday.' This seems wise. Norway's rearming, Finland and Sweden have joined NATO. Putin's war in Ukraine has united Scandinavia against Russia.

Pancho Villa update. The story is about a troop of cavalry scouts tracking Villa through Chihuahua state. We intro the main character, Captain Moser. We see other characters while the scene and ambience are set. The troop gets on the road. The troop enters a town. Something is wrong, the vibe isn't right. They realize Villa must be hiding there. Then they spot Villa forces approaching from the south while government forces approach from the west.  The scouts are sandwiched between two hostile forces that are about to fight. And then we're not quite sure what happens next, lol.

Who's Captain Moser? He's a grizzled horse soldier. Served with Pershing against the Moros. His father rode with Pershing against the Apache Indians. He lost his wife some time ago. The pain of memory is suppressed but the wound is raw. Moser's got combat fatigue and sometimes gets the shakes. He has a face like an old baseball glove and a permanent farmer's tan.
