World War 1990: Norway is out. Click here if you're British. We should feel triumphant. But mostly we feel, say it with us, great fear and trepidation.
Alert reader(s) will notice a few tweaks to the Future Projects page.
The Biden camp has parried the initial calls for Joe to step aside, but this is only because Bill Clinton and Barry Soetoro voiced their support for him to remain. Barry is the power behind the throne, it's his people running the Regime, so he wants Joe to remain in place. The opposition has another opportunity to drive Joe from the race when polls come out this week. If those polls show Trump in the lead, expect a cacophony of calls for Joe to drop out. One supposes it comes down to what 'Doctor'* Jill wants.
The Jerusalem Post reports that the IDF has killed a thousand 'named' Hamas fighters in Rafah. Keep 'em dying. So yeah...this idea that Rafah was going to be a Stalingrad or something was just another load of crap from the press. With the Rafah infrastructure being dismantled, some sort of hostage deal becomes much more palatable to this blog. This week the IDF also launched a raid on Shejaya against reconstituted Hamas forces there. Some idiots think this is a bad thing, 'See, the IDF withdraws and Hamas shows it survives!' No, Hamas comes out of its hole and the IDF whacks it good.
Meanwhile the IDF gathers a mighty army of 4 divisions on the Lebanese Border. Not since the 1982 War (and don't be fooled, Operation Peace for Galilee was a tremendous victory) has Israel assembled a mightier force. Exit question: should the Israelis attack Iran too?
Moving on to Will's Good Idea for the Week of 6/30/24...
We'll proceed slowly, ever slowly, with World War 1990: Thatcher's War, but we will proceed. We spent a good chunk of yesterday reading about the SAS in Ireland, and are satisfied that our image of a bunch of rogues who would, for example, steal a farmer's tractor and trailer for a mission and then gun down a bunch of IRA flunkies in their beds, is accurate.
We're going to work on War Night and Other Stories of the Great Nuclear War of 1975, which we haven't looked at since 31 May. We think we can get the existing stories edited and ready in July. Why not? We also think we can write another story in July. War Night is 32,000 words.
Halfway through 2024 we know what the rest of the year will look like. What will 2025 look like? Up next would be World War 1990: Battle of the GIUK Gap. Or is it finally time for Will to write something different and take a risk? If so, what would that be?
