Will's Good Idea for the Week of 7/28/24

Good Sunday, Stroock's Books readers. Let's pop over to The Times of Israel to see if the Israelis have gone biblical on Hezbollah. Be right back...Not yet. Netanyahu is back in Israel. The war cabinet meets in just a few hours. The Israelis hit seven targets last night and there are many reports of unusual activity in the skies and along the Lebanese coast.

This blog suggests Netanyahu tell the Regime, 'Mr. President, we are prepared to act in a moderate and restrained way, provided you support, in its entirety, our diplomatic position in Gaza, and expedite the shipment of the following weapons...' This almost certainly will not happen, but it's a thought.

At last check Israel had four divisions on the Lebanese border. This force has been preparing to attack for months. The IDF claims to have stockpiled all the weapons it needs for a sustained campaign. Let's hope so. Let's also hope that Rafael Systems is fibbing when it says Iron Beam won't deploy until 2025.

Against this force are tens of thousands of Hezbollah terrorists; hundreds of thousands of rockets and drones. The Jerusalem Post warns of Hezbollah EMP weapons. There is also the matter of Syrian and Iraqi militia units gathering opposite the Golan Heights. These will die gloriously. Reminder, the Golan Heights are sovereign Israeli territory.  Exit question: is all out war to destroy Hezbollah worth the price Israel would pay (we don't think this outcome is likely)?

This, from some of the mourning Druze, is a fair point: '“Now you come here? Ten months you didn’t come!” a man wearing a military uniform shouted at Housing Minister Nir Barkat and Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman, to applause from the crowd. One drone hits Tel Aviv and you turn Yemen upside down! Why is Beirut still there? Why is there still a Beirut, at all?” the man asked angrily.'

Moving on to Will's Good Idea for the Week of 7/28/24...So, World War 1990: Norway, a standalone novel, is wrapping up a great month of sales. Perhaps we should write more standalone World War 1990 novels. Battle of the Giuk Gap is next after Thatcher's War. A few War Night concepts...The Irish Taoiseach, Canadian Voodoo, A night at the Kremlin.  We really want to get War Night done by 21 September. Let's see if this concept works. Let's see if we're writing more nuke stories or moving on to something else.
