Good Saturday Stroock's Book reader(s) and conversationalists across the land (thanks Rush).
Yesterday morning was a hell of a morning to wake up with a gout attack, which we didn't tell anyone about, not even the reader(s) of this blog, for security purposes, don't you know. Nothing was keeping us away from the Rutgers tour. The tour was just fine and Oldest Daughter was delighted with the program she looked at.
The program is kind of a women's leadership college within a college, thingy. We were worried that it would be run and staffed by blue haired weirdos, begin with a land acknowledgment and make everyone walk around with pronoun nametags. We need not fear. The program is filled out mostly by ambitious, overachieving young women.
Oldest Daughter wore a Rutgers sweatshirt with Hebrew style lettering. One of the student guides asked her about the sweatshirt, 'I'm Jewish too,' she said. 'How are things on campus?' we asked in a hushed voice. The guide knew what we meant. 'Things have calmed down a lot,' she said. 'The vibe has changed'. Which is good to know. She does both Hillel and Chabad. Most excellent.
Segue....speaking of a hell of a day, how about the market, eh? We don't know. We do know that the market will fluctuate and will eventually rise again. Hey, panicky investors who ride girl's bikes, the losses are all paper. If you don't sell, you don't lose money. Someone is scooping up those bargains. To put it another way, gut check time [big girl's blouse-Ed]. Experts are concerned. Exit question: what have experts gotten right the last 25 years?
We got in several innings of Mets baseball yesterday afternoon. Nice homerun, Pete Alonso. He had a down year in 2024, but the embattled slugger is off to a good start this year. This blog maintains Alonso would do well to lose 15 pounds. Baah, he doesn't listen to us. The Phillies and Dodgers put on a great pitching demonstration yesterday evening, ahh Yamamoto-san. Once again, the Phillies tried and failed to blow the lead. Mrs. Stroock's Phillies are in first place. Earlier in the week, for the first time in years, we caught an inning of a regular season Yankees game and were bored to death.
The Things.
The Saturday updates are pretty redundant given our daily DOGE reports. No? Anyway, the World War 1990: Thatcher's War interlude is coming along just fine. We still haven't quite figured out what we're doing or how we're doing it. The purpose of the interlude to have Ingham blow up IRA bars, maybe NORAID too, and show what's happening in the US after the war. World War 1990: Thatcher's War is 52,000 words. World War 1990 Thatcher's War is going to be a big book.
