You've probably noticed that Stroock is a Dutch name. Indeed my great-great-great grandfather immigrated from Rotterdam in 1848. Sadly we have no family there, as we are Hebrews.
Somewhat ironically we grew up in the Hudson River Valley, which 350 years after the fact still has the imprint of Dutch settlement. This includes the Hudson River which is spanned by the Tappan Zee Bridge. Also we grew up outside of Peekskill or Peek's Kill, a town settled by the intrepid Jan van Peek. Nearby is the hamlet of Verplank. Down river one finds Yonkers, the Bronx and Haarlem. Up river is the town of Poughkeepsie and the Catskill Mountains ,then Albany. Our basketball team is the Knickerbockers and their colors are orange and blue.
