Thirty years ago metal took over MTV and rock n roll.
This era is documented in Penelope Spheeris' brilliant The Decline and Fall of Western Civilization Part II: the Metal Years.
With a few exceptions, Dave Mustaine is in the film after all, Spheeris chronicles hair metal, Sunset Strip metal.
Metal was supposed to be for this guy:
You're not good looking. You're not popular. You're not smart. You're not athletic. You don't get why the hell you have to read Jane Austin and you already understand you'll never need to know about the Congress of Vienna or African villages or algebra.
And you were right, too.
That kid's 50 now. What do you suppose he did after high school? What do you suppose he's doing now?
We're 44, raising three daughters and taking a variety of pills for a variety of ailments. Christ, man, we used to be a college professor.
