Monday Metal: The Cult

They were the perfect band for the late 80's; hard-rock with a bit of psychedelic and the southwestern feel that was dominating hair metal.

Lead Singer Ian Astbury looks the part of a late 60's era crooner, looking a bit like Roger Daltrey while sounding like Jim Morrison. In the early aughts Astbury toured with the Doors.

Musically we hear power chords with searing guitar riffs but underneath all that are a lot of hooks that remind one of Hippies.

The Cult is probably best remembered for Fire Woman:

Here's another great single, Sanctuary:

Here's Love Removal Machine with some great hooks and licks:

We discovered, or rediscovered them when our second daughter was born. We listened to the Cult while we walked her around the neighborhood. They were a revelation.
