The Bastard's Conquest
So the other night we were watching Becket about the travails of Henry II and Thomas Becket starting Richard O'Toole, Richard Burton and a wonderful John Gielgud as the King of France.
This reminded us that we wanted to do a novel about the Norman Conquest.
The Bastard''s Conquest would follow a young knight from just after the Battle of Hasting through the death of William the Bastard in 1087. We see our young knight, a minor aide to the Bastard, march to London, track down Harold's brothers, maybe fight off a Viking raid or two. Along the way he does horrible things to the Saxons all while fighting for his soul and spirit, finds a nice manor house, probably on the Welsh marches, and settles down. We see the birth of his son who one day goes on crusade if there's ever a sequel.
Might be fun. And quick too.
We'll see.
I'm no writer try but failed. I have always wonder how the civil war would of been if Stone wall had commanded the Army of Tennessee instead of Bragg at the battle of Murfreesboro
ReplyDeleteTry again. Which one is Murfreesboro? Is that 1864 to try to counter Sherman's March?
ReplyDeleteNorth called it Stones River fought in December of 1862 outside of Nashville
ReplyDeleteWrite it up.
