So middle-daughter loves dance and is taking a hip-hop class. For their presentation this spring the class will stop, collaborate and listen.
That's right:
This song has an interesting history. First of all, younger reader(s), don't let any Gen-Xer lie to you about this. In the fall of 1990 Ice Ice Baby was the biggest song on the radio and we all thought it was awesome. The song and Vanilla Ice were over exposed and quickly became a joke. We recall making fun of Ice Ice Baby during a late night study session in 1994, with the entire group going ch ch ch ch ch ch chc ch Bing! It didn't take long.
Now of course Ice Ice Baby is retro-cool and is played at weddings. When middle-daughter's dance instructor announced the song by playing it, all the Gen-X parents broke out in cheer.
Why not? It's a good song, tells a story and does have a good beat, even if they ripped it off from Queen.
Rob Van Winkle is an interesting man who managed to pull himself out of the gutter and was smart with his money and transformed him himself into a reality TV star.
Good for him.
By the way, anyone know what the other big hip-hop songs of 1990 were? I have no idea. But everyone knows Ice-Ice Baby.
