Shooting Back

As noted in previous posts we were a sub at Bernards High and a prof at Raritan Valley Community College.

Both institutions had active shooter procedures. These involved locking the door, throwing a desk in front of same, turning off the lights and hiding.

The instructions in every classroom at RVCC admonished, 'Don't investigate. Act.'

Given the circumstances these were the best options.

We decided early on that we were willing to die to defend our students. Frankly, the cost of inaction was too high. To put it another way, we weren't willing to walk around in the aftermath knowing we lived while one or more of our students died.

It was a state of mind, really.

Of course if teachers could just shoot back....

  1. Texas recently legalized conceal carry on all state properties...including colleges. Also legalized open carry elsewhere. My .357 Magnum isn't well concealed but does qualify on campus. Liberal Art History teacher tried to kick me out of class for carrying. Art History 2 Teacher actually liked having a well armed student(s) in his class.
