Bill Maher makes the Case

This weekend Bill Maher made the case for a hard-left Democrat Party:

Now Maher stumbles upon an interesting point, though we don't believe he meant to. Linking Dems and Pelosi may not yield results for the GOP.

We harken back 20, nearly 25 years to a time when the Dems spent millions morphing every congressional Republican into Newt Gingrich. Indeed Newt was unpopular but that never really threatened the Republican majority which held on with Newt as Speaker in 96 and 98.

Of course the farthest right Republican is closer to the center than the farthest left Democrat and this is doubly true with San Fran Nan.

Note that Lamb had to run adds in PA-18 specifically distancing himself from Poxi Pelosi.

What is it with the Dems being run by sick old-hags?

Maher lists Pelosi's accomplishments, Obamacare, the Porkulous, Dodd-Frank etc, but we are skeptical of this argument for two reasons. First, the House of Representatives has few checks on the majority, nor should it. Legislation by steamroller is the norm, this doesn't require a lot of legislative skill. Second, none of those bills is really popular, something like 2/3rds of the Dems who voted for Obamacare are gone.

We think this is a fight that will playout over the next few months and we think the left will win. Look at what happened to Labour in Britain.

And BTW, Maher is absolutely right about the Republicans and abortion. Personally I stopped believing them on issues like this after Senator Larry Craig and his wide stance.

[Yeah, I bet you did-Ed]
