73 years ago today President Truman destroyed Nagasaki.

In so far as the people opposed to the bombings have an argument, there best argument lays here. Truman didn't give the Japanese government enough time. Not unreasonable.

From there the anti-A-Bomb crowd likes to talk about peace negotiations, the Japanese insistence on keeping the emperor, etc etc.

Honestly, this is the worst kind of history. We know everything now, yes. But Truman did not know everything then.

We risk making excuses for President Truman. We don't mean to make excuses becuase we don't need to.
