American Healthcare for Euros Part D

Americans will get the joke in the title.

Anyway we should mention that there's one aspect of private health insurance we didn't get to yesterday which probably had American reader(s) wanting to come through the screen and punch us in the nuts.

You guys knew this was coming: The Pre Existing Condition. Du-du-duuuuuuuuuu.

Up till Obamacare, when one signed up for insurance, insurers had the right to deny coverage for a pre-existing condition. Like cancer. Or heart disease. Hell, we knew someone whose new insurer tried to deny coverage of her pregnancy.

Bastards.

That doesn't mean they always denied coverage. That doesn't mean one couldn't appeal the denial. It just meant insurers could and did deny pre existing conditions.

At this point the European, you people know who you are, may be pointing at the screen and proclaiming, 'Aaaaaha!' And right they are to do so.
