The Gaza Gordian

For years the Israelis have told Hamas in Gaza that calm will be met with calm.

Here's an interesting article on how that policy has failed, arguing that deterrence lets Hamas dictate the pace of play in the conflict.

This weekend Israel expects a massive border march to mark the one year anniversary of the March of Return. One can expect tens of thousands of marchers, burning tires and incendiary kites.

Israel can either live with Hamas or topple Hamas. If they chose the latter action they'll have to run the strip themselves (preposterous) or turn it over the PA. While Hamas does face some internal dissent does anyone think the Gazans would accept and Israel backed PA regime?

Don't tell people living in the Israeli south, but Gaza is still just a secondary problem while the quasi war against Iran in Syria intensifies.
