Three Seas snippet...of Doubt

Well here's a bit for all you waiting with baited breath for Battle of the Three Seas. We used to think this was fine. Now we're not so sure. We think we might be over-thinking and we're sure we're over-editing.

What do you think?

Over the course of Operation Mare Nostrum Foch’s battlegroup sunk two Soviet subs the in the central Mediterranean, flown in support of Italian forces in Yugoslavia and conducted deterrence patrols against Libya. Nobody could predict exactly what that nation’s lunatic dictator would do, or not do. The French public would love that. Mitterrand liked the idea himself and regretted it wasn’t so. This was a feint. Instead of sailing for Gibraltar, the task force sailed east to rendezvous with the Marina Militarie...

Who/What is the Libyan or is it the Libyan Gulf or some other maritime feature? Name Gaddafi and perhaps reference his line of death comments.
