Hey, who checked in from Peekskill? Hen Hud*, class of '92, drop me a line! 10566!
For the initiated, Peekskill was named for Jan Van Peek, one of the early Dutch settlers. It means Peek's Stream. Dutch readers we pronounce it Peek-skill. Sorry.
The whole Hudson River valley is loaded with Dutch names; Poughkeepsie, the Catskills (yes pronounced Cat-skills) Albany, Orange County, Cobleskill, Cortlandt, Yonkers, Bronx, Harlem, etc etc.
*Named for Hendrick Hudson (blech, hate seeing those words together) the Dutch explorer of the river valley.
