Francesa announced last month he was ready to walk away from the afternoon drive mic for the second time. Francesa famously retired from WFAN in 2017 following a long farewell tour, only to return to the station four months later. He has been back on the air since May 2018, but there had been rumors for months his second stint at WFAN would not last long, particularly after Francesa’s much-ballyhooed “Mike’s On” app was bought by Entercom, WFAN’s parent company, and merged into the Radio.com app.Francesa had an 18 month long retirement farewell tour in which the entire NY metro area sports world kissed his ring. His sudden return, cutting into another show's air time, was a classless move.
In his last years Francesa became an-on air jerk, berating people for disagreeing with him about trivial stuff, say the use of the Mets bullpen.
He won't be missed.
