The First of Three

One Bot Mitzvah in the books. Two more to go. After that, three weddings.

Our oldest was magnificent conducting the Saturday service, in Hebrew, mind you. As the Stroocks are descendent from nice, respectable German and Dutch Jews, as near as we can tell this is the first Stroock Mitzvah in at least a century. It was the first Mitzvah we ever attended.

Mrs. Stroock's ancestors came from Lithuania and Belarus, real Fiddler on the Roof stuff, and comes from a conservative Jewish tradition. In fact her mother spent summers in an Orthodox synagogue on Tremont Avenue in the South Bronx. Coincidentally we used to drive past it on the way to Yankees games. That synagogue is an AME Baptist church now, but the Hebrew signage remains.

One has never spoken publicly until one has done so next to one's 13 year old daughter whose nudging you and telling you to 'wrap it up' becuase one is up against he clock. She would have played exit music if she could have.

This, from the Coen Brother's A Serious Man (3/4 by the way) will give one the flavor of the moment:
