GH Thompson

We don't write about our mother's father much, George Hunter Thompson. He died when we were 10 in typical postwar man fashion; heart attack. So we don't remember him much. Our full name is William Thompson Stroock and had we had a boy his name would have bene Thompson and we'd have called him Tommy, just as we were called as a boy.

George Hunter Thompson was born on 29 January, 1919, in Thompson Ridge, Orange County, New York. He was a geologist by training, first for Shell, later for Bethlehem Steel. During the war he was Lieutenant GH Thompson, radar operator, 407th AAA  Battalion (back row, 2nd from left). Below are some photos of our grandfather in various stages of his life.
