Majority: Silent but Deadly and Rude

Now everybody just settle down. True, we live in a time of chaos and it's only going to get worse. But what happened 50 years ago? After four years of riots  the GOP won 5 out of the last 6 presidential elections and Clinton only won by being a moderate Democrat.

Was there long term damage from the upheaval of 1968? In the first episode of Dragnet Detective Sgt. Joe Friday and Detective Gannon investigate a drug dealing hippie. By 1968 being a hippie was nothing more than a fashion choice.

There's always a reaction, a counter-jihad by decent folk. Of course those of us who go to work, help our kids with their math, and mow our lawns, just don't have the time to riot. Maybe we should, for as Kate McMillan says, not rioting is a failed Conservative policy. Nixon talked about the Silent Majority. He was right then, he's right now. The Silent Majority strikes back in subtle but deadly ways. Last night HBO cancelled Gone with the Wind. Today it's #1 on Amazon.

There's something else decent folk can do, and this blog has mentioned it before. Stop. Being. Polite. We'll retell this story. A few years ago we were in the waiting room of a tire shop when a woman walked in and made a big deal about Fox being on the telly. 'Oh, not Fox News,' she said or some such. We absolutely let her have it, 'What you want some of that fake news CNN?' we went on for a bit. We'll do it again.
