Monday Ennui of Not Metal

We've written previously of our sudden interest in the last few songs we discovered through MTV, our last time paying attention to the network, which was 20 years ago this spring. We lived in Northern Virginia and before our hour and a half commute into Alexandria and then over to Seven Corners, we'd watch MTV while Mrs. Stroock got ready. Here's another one of the videos we recall:
That's Sting, Desert Rose. This music video looks like a Jaguar commercial, becuase it is a Jaguar Commercial which is totally great for the environment, Amazonians and 100% authentic to boot.

Sting looks bored and frankly, so are we. The whole bisexual libertine thing was already passé by 2000. That Arabic dude is Cheb Mami, which makes sense given the songs Arabic music influences.  We found him kinda annoying. Speaking of annoying, we'd hate to break this to the two hispster DJ's in the back rocking and conducting along to the beat; you ain't musicians.

This song is not bad, there's some interesting things happening here we like the beat and slow climb up effect.

Watching stuff like this, from a generation ago, when X was still young, when TVs still sat on tables, when people still bought CDs, when people were predicting the DOW would hit 30,000, well, it's getting weird, like a waking dream, looking back through the mist before 9/11, before Millennials, before the bubble burst, before the dark time, before the Empire....
