That's right. We're watching Gettysburg.
There really aren't enough films about The War Between the States. Off the top of our head, Gettysburg, Gods and Generals (never saw it), The Hundley, Glory, The Horse Soldiers, The Red Badge of Courage, Andersonville, we seem to recall a TNT production about the Monitor and the Virginia, but that's it.
We saw Gettysburg in theatres, with a friend of ours, in 1993. We liked it then and saw it a couple more times. Actually, as Gettysburg was a Turner production one couldn't miss it in the mid 1990s. Gettysburg was always on. We haven't seen it since. This allows us to approach the film from a fresh perspective.
One memory about our theatre experience. We were sitting in front of a couple of high school girls who were taking notes, obviously for extra credit. They cheered after the Battle of Little Round Top when the screen faded to black, and then groaned when it read Intermission.
Gone With The Wind? Cold Mountain. Gettysburg is great. Gods and Generals was awful. I seem to recall a movie about the cadet class from VMI
