On Political Art

Politics is downstream from culture, Andrew Breitbart used to say. David Cole, who knew the man, says this is bunk. Cole has some tough words for those of us who are Andrew Breitbart and makes some good points. We suggest reading the column.

We followed and commented on a long, interesting FB thread about Cole's article, conservatives, politics, culture and conservative art. One of the participants in the thread posted this video from a Mark Steyn cruise about same.* We don't need conservative art, the participants say, we need good art.

On the FB thread we pointed out that Social Justice Warrior art is inherently bad art. It's message first, plot and characterization second. Look at Star Wars. George Lucas's prequels are merely bad movies. But Kathleen Kennedy's sequels are bad movies because they smack the audience in the face with a feminist, girls rule-boys drool message.

Look at what the SJWs have done to comics. The Critical Drinker has chronicled how the SJWs turned comic book heroes into pudgy, A-cupped, menstruating lesbians and soi boys who are also menstruating. Click here and here for the horror. Mr. we could use a man like Sgt. Rock again.

Like we said, bad art.

But wouldn't conservative art be just as bad? Think about what a comic book about conservative superheroes would look like...there you go. Pro-Life Warrior, NRA-Man, Prayer Chain...We shudder, we shudder.

Good art gets the artist's message across without the consumer even realizing. And that's why SJW art sucks.
