Spending the day doing the last read on Nederland's final chapter. Actually it isn't the final chapter. It's the longest chapter, The Poletei of Klazineaveen.
At this point it comes down to catching a chapter's last half dozen typos. There's also issues like when to capitalize poletei, catching where I wrote yards instead of meters, jeep instead of Land Rover.
It's frustrated we're still working on these issues at this stage. We plan to make some changes. Firstly we'll print out a word doc and read the MS on paper before sending it off to the editor. We'll find more of our errors that way and get in a read on-page before reading the proof.
On the nuke front, we've made some good progress today on the financial chapter. You know, 'Mr. President, we have to reestablish the nation's credit.' We realized we had a dump truck moving steel cages of gold out of the NY Federal Reserve vault because that's what we saw in Die Hard with A Vengeance, a critically underrated film. Anyway, we're still trying to overcome the, 'Wait, Paul Harvey survived and he flies a plane? Oh, Ok, I guess...' problem. Readers being airdropped into a scene may simply be the dynamic of this format.
We're going to try to have The Great Nuclear War of 1975 smoothed out by December.
We plan and then we get gout.
