We've always an American first, never a question about that, an American Jew. If there's something for which Jews should give thanks it's America. There's never been a better place for Jews in all our history, and that includes Israel.
Odd to not have to dress up, spend three hours round trip in the car. We could get used to not having to cross the Hudson River. It was quiet too, with just the five of us, no dad, no cousins, no dogs. It was kind of weird too.*
We turned on the first NFL game in time to see several players kneeling for the National Anthem. Just disgusting. We turned it off but skulked back later.
As always we spent the morning at work while the girls watched the Thanksgiving Day Parade and helped their mother with preparations. On Thanksgiving morn the wise man steers clear of the kitchen and lets the womenfolk work. They'll call you when they need you to open a jar or something. Don't worry, we had dish duty. All was as it should have been.

*Nothing will ever be weirder than 2018 in which we had Thanksgiving between our mother's death on Monday and burial that Friday. We begged our father to do it Wednesday so Thanksgiving could mark a kind of renewal. We were right.
