Man this blog just doesn't get cops. You roll up on a mostly peaceful neighborhood dispute and see a girl trying to knife another girl and open fire? What's up with that? Who among us?
Below is a still taken from a video of one of the many afternoon knife fights at our own Hendrick Hudson High School, Montrose, New York, ca 1990:
We're that blur on the left.
Did the cops show up and kill both the friends in a hail of bullets? No. A patrol sergeant walked out, held his hands out and said, 'Hey, fellas, how 'bout we work this out over a soda pop?' Situation, de-escalated.
We had a nice weight lifting session yesterday. We'll try to follow that up with an hour on the treadmill this afternoon.
More slugging through The Final Storm yesterday. What a wreck. We'll keep on going through the end of the month, even though we'd love to walk away for a while. No one said this gig was easy. It's not like writers get a week off at Xmas, spring break and summer vacation. Writing ain't teaching.
[Awww....you're having a hard time? Boohoo! Put on the 80's training montage video and get back to work, Yank -Ed]
On the plus side we read through The Great Salvation of 1976's first chapter and things are looking real good. The opening cabinet meeting sets things up nicely, the construction of the Lake Ponchartrain Canal cutoff, George Shultz's trip to Saudi Arabia, the establishment of the Federal Reserve in Chattanooga. Reminder, we still have to finish off '75's Falklands chapter.
The more we research, the more comfortable we are with the notion that the Soviets couldn't have nuked everything in North America. Their rocket forces were a hodgepodge of missiles and systems of varying technology, SS-11s here, SS-19s there. This blog believes Soviet missile crews were less reliable than their American counterparts.
We may switch strategies. Back in the day we'd kick things off with a few hours of magazine article work then novel work. It warmed us up. Today we'll start off reading '76 and get to work on The Final Storm.
We'll be reading the second chapter today.
