Updates for Saturday

Last night we slept well for the first night in...a while. Weeks. Months? There was no 2 AM wakeup, anyway. We didn't get up till about 5 minutes ago (it's nearly 9 AM as we write that).

Detox is going okay. Some brain zaps, but we don't find ourselves moodier or shorter tempered more than usual. Dreams are more intense and detailed than usual. This is normal.

Man, taking apart that basement took a lot out of us. Yesterday was the first morning in weeks where we felt like we could get to the gym.  Maybe we'll go this afternoon? We still have soreness in the left arm above the elbow.

We are finished watching Star Trek: Voyager. Which is to say, they're taking it off of Netflix and we're not paying to see it. We haven't been able to finish the last two episodes we watched.

The things...

We're about halfway done with The Great Nuclear War of 1975 readthrough. Plenty of typos and small fixes of course. While there are a few textual changes to make, so far we don't see that massive changes are needed and we don't see opportunities presenting themselves. This is the novel, for as it is written: This is the novel.

The novel contains:

  • Chapters showing the president dealing with an unending parade of issues. This happens in the form of cabinet meetings held in a Casper, Wyoming high school
  • The British trying to pick up the pieces and later defending the Falklands
  • Matt trying to make his way to his family in Indiana
  • Random, one off vignettes throughout the nation
  • Some scenes showing the military in the aftermath. These include carriers and submarines at sea.
  • Lot's of National Guard cleaning things up

We worked on a few chapters of The Final Storm. We found the Far East Chapter particularly lacking. Lots of improvements to be made. This is normal. Gonna be a bit for that one. Gonna take some doing.
