Will's Friday Morning Sports Gambling Complaint

A weird and tough run yesterday. Our knee hurt right away and the run was very hurky-jerky and lacking in flow. We had trouble settling in. We toughed it out but came away sore and remain sore this morning. We'll lift soon, regardless.

The American Conservative notices the ubiquity of online gambling. NJ.com reports that $1.3 billion was placed in sports bets in New Jersey last month. A decade ago we complained that every other NFL commercial was for Viagra. This is worse. The gambling ads have taken over sports talk radio too. Remember, NYC has the most important sports talk radio station in America, 66 WFAN. We can't listen anymore.

'Gambling problem? Call 1-800-Gambler.' Yeah, that will do it. One of our blessings, and they are legion, is never having had the urge to gamble on sports, or anything else. We don't even understand sports gambling terminology. What's a parlay? We've never participated in office pools and don't think we've even placed informal wagers with friends. Wait, that's right. Once in 1993, during the NCCA finals. Five bucks in our fraternity pool.

Sports is just for gambling now, aren't they? Lord knows they aren't for the fans. Every year sports get just a little harder to watch. The networks actually show commercials during pauses in the action. Just one of the reason we've don't watch baseball anymore and watch a lot less football. Who wants to see a 10 second ad while the manager walks out to the mound?

What to write in 2022. The Final Storm rough will be done by then. There will follow a long editing slog. There seems to be consensus for World War 1990: Battle of the GIUK Gap. Maybe we should do the desert Mercs thingy, just to work on something different? Or we could get really weird and write The Bastard's Conquest (see future projects page). It's a good problem to have, really. First thing's first. Let's get the nuke novels cleared out. We're optimistic we can complete the 76 rough next month.

Below, Friday Autumnal reds:
