School and Book and Poll Updates

Last night the Bridgewater/Raritan School Board voted to make masks optional effective March-7. There was cheering and applause from the small assemblage at the meeting. One pro-science attendee opposed to masks got up to speak, and someone on the board moved to recess. The motion did not carry. What was that? We watched the live feed from home.

In The Final Storm, we've been working on Hogg Squadron's (remember them?) airstrike on the Kostroma missile base. Fly down to southern Finland, aerial refuel, head east. So far Hogg Squadron's chapter resembles Tornado 33 Squadron's chapter. We must needs differentiate. What should happen? Hogg Squadron arrives on target? They're intercepted? SAM and AAA defenses too much for them?

NJ.com reports on the 'teacher crisis' in New Jersey: 'Speakers told the Joint Committee on Public Schools that applications have been slipping for at least a decade and the nearly two-year-long coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the downward trend, resulting in administrators scrambling to cover vacant positions inside and outside of classrooms.' Gee, it's almost as if requiring one to have a teaching degree and forcing applicants to go through a complicated years long process to get their certification discourages people, and qualified applicants figure they'll find something else to do. Yes, we tried this, 15 years ago, and were declined without explanation.

Ace reports on the Emerson poll giving GOPs a nine (9!) point advantage in the generic congressional ballot. The GOPs' advantage is +4.5 in the RCP poll of polls. Okay, this blog finally believes it. Something wild and momentous is happening out there. Forget the Red Wave, this is going to be the Red Wedding (we think we stile that from Hot Air). We've seen GOP congressional storms before, '94, '10, '14. They didn't amount to much, though more that the naysayers admit. We'll see.

Well goddamn, someone reviewed A March Through Hell:

You know, sometimes we forget that novel exists.
