Supplemental Monday Post (Pre-Memorial Day Edition)

The father of one of our neighbors, here from India for a long visit as is common, asked us what Memorial Day is all about. Among other things, we said Memorial Day was an excuse to watch a lot of war movies on TV. Anyone who knows India, knows India is a nation full of cinephiles. Our friend's dad asked what are the essential American war movies. He wants the full American experience.

Here's my 9:

-Platoon

-Apocalypse Now

-The Big Red One

-They Were Expendable

-Midway

-Glory

-The Red Badge of Courage (original)

-The Longest Day (not exclusively American, but still)

-The Sands of Iwo Jima

Post in comments, people. Oh, he's already seen Patton.
