Will's Inadvertent Sunday Israeli News Wrap and Good Idea for the Week of 7/3/22

The Times of Israel reports, 'The Israel Defense Forces had prior intelligence on Hezbollah’s Saturday launching of three unarmed drones at the Karish gas field off Israel’s Mediterranean coast, and believes it was an attempt to convey a message to Israel. One of the aircraft was downed by an F-16 fighter jet and the other two by Barak 8 missiles launched from the Saar 5 Class Corvette INS Eilat. According to defense officials, all three were intercepted “at a safe distance from” the drilling platform.'

It seems Hezbollah was sending a message to Israel, after yet another Israeli raid on Syria. During Operation Guardian of the Walls, Israel deployed an Iron Dome anti-missile battery to Karish. We assume the platform will get the new fancy Israeli lasers. This blog wonders what other ideas Hezbollah has for attacking Karish.* Exit question, an Israeli Dolphin class sub is on station, no?

Former PM Naftali Bennett is quitting politics and handing over leadership of the Yamina party to the lovely Ayelet Shaked. The retirement is probably only temporary. In Israeli's apportionment system, where parties get Knesset seats based on vote percentage, it's really easy to form new parties based on strong, well known leaders. Arial Sharon did it in the early 2000s.

This week we begin reviewing the softcover edition of World War 1990: The Weser. We'll also be reversing blog time this week, posting in the late afternoon during the final drive to 5000 posts. Look at us, two good ideas for the week of 7/3/22.

*Hamas kept trying to land frogmen on the Israeli coast. Someone should put the security footage of these landings to Benny Hill music.
