Will's Good Idea for the Week of 9/3/23

It's Sunday, and our 14-year-old van needs new brakes. We are replacing the brakes because we can't find a new van we like. We'll spend the morning sitting in the waiting room working on World War 1990: Norway.

We've got a few days to reactivate our Twitter account before it's permanently deleted. We've got a burner account, for reading things, but that's it. And we're not doing anything on Gab anymore. This blog is at least useful in that it gives us a place to direct the stray voltage and get our brain going in the morning. An old friend of ours, who was an artist before he went straight*, compared this blog to an artist's sketch pad. We admit it feels good when the page gets filled.

Mrs. Stroock's Penn State demolished West Virginia 38-15 last night, pulling ahead late in the game. We are pleased.

A few of the people we follow on Twitter were going on about 'sports culture' after watching Tucker's interview with Dave Portnoy. We caught about half the interview, which was not uninteresting. We agree with the critics though, we're sick of 'sports culture.' Don't you guys have something better to do?

To watch a sportsball broadcast today is to be bombarded by strutting players [nothing new there, -Ed] we know. Baseball has gotten especially bad as nobody wants to play the game right. And who the hell cares about launch angles and exit velocity? Announcers don't add anything to the game while talking too much. A decade ago, we complained about being bombarded by erectile dysfunction adverts. Come back, Cialis. All is forgiven. Now we get gambling ads with every commercial break, even during baseball games. Anyone who knows anything about the history of baseball....** Exit question, what's more important, the game or the gambling?

During said Penn State game we broke out our copy of Tom Clancy's Carrier, and brushed up on our carrier ops...what exactly does the CAG do again? [Seriously?-Ed] Not really. Interestingly, while we found a lot of general info in Carrier, the book lacks detail. Bear in mind our baseline for detail is a veteran tanker explaining how to boresight a 120mm gun. We'll be watching a lot of vids in the coming weeks to sharpen up Norway's tech details.

We were working on the Battle of Bardufuss yesterday and noticed that if NATO forces are going to advance northeast toward the Froy Line, they'd have to go past Bardufuss. They may not need to take the airstrip, only contain it. So far Colonel Timonen and his VDV regiment have destroyed a quartet of M60 tanks and are taking a lot of shelling.

We think we can finish up the NATO counterattack chapter and the Battle of Tromso chapter this week, rough draft's only. That's our good idea for the week of 9/3/23.

*Family man, living in an English-speaking country.

**We're told we can bet on game props, totals, and the money line. We have no idea what any of this means.
