Will's Good Idea for the Week of 2/18/24

The damn snow blower wouldn't start yesterday. It needed a new sparkplug, which we could only get after we cleared the snow. The snow was light and fluffy, thank the Lords of Kobol. We got our back-to-back workouts in, at least. By noon the sun was out, the snow on the road melted, and the rest froze, making for a crunchy, cold and unpleasant morning. 

A rather unpersuasive editorial from the Jerusalem Post:  'Calling all Americans: It's time to make aliyah - editorial. We need any Jew who can assist on the ground; though Israel is a strong country, it doesn't make us weaker to speak up and ask our brothers and sisters around the world for their assistance.' Aliya means immigrate to Israel. Sorry, fellas, we're an American. We don't really know what we could contribute to Israel, anyway. 

The Israeli cabinet has rejected calls for unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.* Well duh. Look, people calling for a new 'peace process', you've got to convince the Israelis it's in their interest, and you've got to get the Gazans and West Bank people to stop talking about Jewish genocide. That ain't gonna happen. 

An interesting article about Israeli elections (scheduled for 2026), in which 'Likud officials' privately admit that Bibi is 'finished' after the war. But what does 'after the war' mean. 

Related: the Israelis are preparing the media battlespace for an attack on Rafah. Reports say many Israeli hostages are held there, info leaked by the government, no doubt. And Netanyahu has declared, “Those who want to prevent us from operating in Rafah are essentially telling us: ‘Lose the war.’ I won’t let that happen,” he vowed at an evening press conference in Jerusalem. “We won’t capitulate to any pressure.” This time the Arab doesn't get to hide behind the West's skirt. This time the Arab loses, decisively. 

Yes the Regime is pressuring Israel to capitulate. But the Regime is also sending weapons and ammo to Israel: '[T]he proposed shipment includes around a thousand units of MK-82 bombs, fuses, and Joint Direct Attack Munitions guidance kits, which add precision guidance to bombs.' Sounds like those bombs will be dropped on Hezbollah. Again what does 'after the war' mean?

Finally getting to Will's Good Idea for the Week of 2/18/24. This comes in the form of random notes. We should read World War 1990: Norway on screen one last time before reading it in print...Well goddamn, we recalled a few Norway chapters felt a bit short. Adding some Hauk scenes will alleviate that problem. Kizmet!...Other projects loom, but this week is another World War 1990: Norway week...We're eager to start post-war World War 1990, but maybe we should take the rest of the year off.

Such an arrangement will be reached only through direct negotiations between the sides, without preconditions. Israel will continue to oppose unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.
