Good and Bad and Various on a Post May Day

And a good morning to you, Stroock's Books reader(s) whom we admire for not allowing themselves to spend all day doom scrolling Twitter et al for Israeli news. JFC. 

Another fine spring day, yesterday which ended with a pleasant evening outside with dear neighbors. 

We hit the gym once again, four days in a row working out. Weights this afternoon, we think. 

It looks like Hamas is going to reject Isarel's offer but keep negotiating. We don't envy Netanyahu or anyone in the Israeli government. Tough decisions lay ahead. We know the IDF can take Rafah whenever it wants. Great power lies in that. It's what's been moving negotiations along. But what's the price for Israel?

A lot of news outlets keep misreporting what Anthony Blinken is telling Israel. The US doesn't oppose a Rafah attack, it opposes a Rafah attack without a 'credible' plan for protecting civilians. A few hundred thousand Gazans have made their way to Sinai. A few hundred thousand more have returned home. What of the rest? One supposes the Israeli government can say to the Regime, you don't want us to attack Rafah. Okay. What's it worth to you?

On the lighter side, the New York Post reports on a new documentary about the 1990 New York Yankees. Ah we remember that season well.  That's the year the Yankees finally imploded.  Mr. Steinbrenner was suspended. Don Mattingly's back gave out; he was never the same. They traded away Dave Winfield.  Andy Hawkins threw a no-hitter and lost. These were the Yankees of our formative years. This was absolute rock-bottom for the organization. From the ruins a new, winning team would rise. 

Well, we got our Alexander Haig memoir in the mail but are slightly disappointed. We noted in a previous post that the book would be based AF. We said this because supposedly it had been autographed by Haig. Alas we found no truth in advertising, no autograph. Also, the book took longer to get here than promised. Our guess is that the autographed copy had already been sold and the delay resulted from the seller having to order another copy. Oh well. 

More importantly we got the World War 1990: Norway MS back from the editor. One of our people sent us his read and we'll talk soon. The Grognard keeps grognarding. Production will begin next week. 

The Lexington story in War Night is coming along fine. We need one problem for the mayor to deal with between a meeting and a flunky pointing to the telly and saying, 'Uh, Mr. Mayor, the EBS has been activated.' This problem should tell us something about what's happening in Lexington as the news slowly, relentlessly gets worse.
