Wednesday War Withers?

The war in Lebanon continues with Hezbollah having fired a ballistic missile at Tel Aviv. This is an escalation, provocation, and warning. Threats made by Israel and Hezbollah abound.  American/French brokered ceasefire talks are ongoing between Israel and Hezbollah, with progress being made, they say. Dare we say that momentum for a ceasefire is building. Who knows? Hmmm a ceasefire within the next few days, depending on details, would mean a tremendous Israeli victory, would it not?

Israel devastated Hezbollah's command infrastructure. They killed or wounded thousands of members important enough to require official comms gear. The IAF destroyed hundreds upon hundreds of rocket storage sites, and destroyed tens of thousands of rockets. Israel has seriously undermined Hezbollah's state and peace of mind. Israel didn't just beat Hezbollah, Israel humiliated Hezbollah.

Hezbollah fired some rockets at Israel. Hezbollah retains the ability to seriously harm Israel, kill hundreds if not thousands and disrupt everyday life. But if there is a ceasefire, it will come because Israel kicked Hezbollah's ass. On the other hand negotiations could be more Israeli strategic trickery. You know what the imams say. On the gripping hand, we're talking about American diplomacy here, which has failed at everything it attempted these last 3 1/2 years.

Okay, so in Morning Rory we have two Irish teenagers at a Rory Gallagher show in the fictional town of Ballycosta, north of Dublin. They're enjoying the show and blissfully uncaring about the winds of war swirling about them. The story has plenty of set up and plenty of character. Kenny and Aoife are well drawn. Kenny's a kind of shy lad interested in guitar. Aoife is an outgoing girl with a crush on Rory. The garda are about to chase these two down to the cliffside castle ruins where...we don't know what happens next. We've written 3,000 words so far.

What is the point of all this? Where are we going? There's youthful romantic tension between the two but no romance, so there'll be none of that. We learn bits about the kids' homelife, normal in Kenny's case, messy in Aoife's case. Our end goal is to have these two sitting against an old castle wall watching the sun come up. Exit question: how do we get there? Secondary exit question: and why?
