The Stroock family got hibachi last night, on December 7th. We hang our head in shame.
We tweaked our back at the gym yesterday and are sore this morning.
Mrs. Stroock's Penn State lost to Oregon 45-37.
Well that was quick. Assad is gone. Maybe the fall of Assad is a good thing. But the history of the fall of secular Arab regimes in the 21st century (Iraq, Libya, Egypt) does not suggest a positive outcome in Syria. Only a fool is gleefully jumping up and down and cheering the rebels. The man running the main rebel group, this Jolani fellow, was in AQ. Millions of Syrian Christians face an uncertain future. There are many known unknowns and even more unknown unknowns.
The Israelis have occupied the Golan buffer zone and are bombing Syrian chemical weapons sites. In the short term the fall of Assad badly disrupts Hezbollah and pushes Iran away from the Israeli border. Bibi has called the fall of Assad a 'historic day'. In the long term? See above.
Overall, we approach events with great caution and circumspectness. Exit question: Will Damascus look like Baghdad after the fall of Saddam?
Moving on to Will's Good Idea for the Week of 12/8/24....We haven't thought of anything different to write for the 2025 summer sneak in. Honestly, maybe we should just write World War 1990: Battle of the GIUK Gap. We are anxious to do those post-war WW1990 novels. In January we start anew World War 1990: Thatcher's War. We haven't touched it since August.
In the meantime we begin the Operation Frequent Wind but it's Britain in 1950 story.
