Good morning, Stroock's Books fans and associated reader(s).
As of this morning War Night: Stories of the Great Nuclear War of 1975 is #10 in Alternate History and has 13 ratings for a 4.8 star average.
Canada votes today. According to 338 the libs lead the cons by 4 points. This is quite a turnaround, as the cons led by double digits before Justin stepped down. This feels a bit like 2016 when polls mostly showed Hillary winning, just a bit. But while we haven't abandoned all hope, we're not optimistic. Is it Trump? Is it new lib leadership? Or is it that the left has utterly succeeded in Canada?
Whatever the reason, Canada will probably elect a globalist banker who has barely set foot in the nation he'd like to lead. Mark Carney isn't even a member of parliament. Whatever happens in the next few years, just remember Canada: you voted for this.
What Will's Watching: Andor Season-2 Episodes 1-3. We more or less agree with The Critical Drinker's assessment here. Like season-1, season-2 starts off slow. Slower even. After the first episode we thought, meh. After the second episode we thought, okay that was better. After the third episode we thought, hey, that was pretty good. Initially predictable, Andor managed to surprise us several times.
Andor notes...Despite Cassian Andor not being an interesting character, Andor manages to be interesting all its own... There are a few contemporary issues in Andor, 'pennies' as Jonah Goldberg once said about Attack of the Clones. You'll see. Are the writers borrowing from modern times or are they trying to take sides?...We ourselves enjoyed all the ceremony Drinker lambasts...The scene in which Dedra berates Syril's mother (talk about a surprise!) is hilarious...Dedra's pretty. For this we will summon the Rohirim.
Monday Metal: Good news, Youngest Daughter is listening to a lot of metal. Bad news, it's Nu Metal. Related... we watched ten minutes of a Meatloaf documentary and can't get I Would do Anything for Love (but I won't do that) out of our head. By Adon's Ban, we hadn't heard or thought about that song in 30 years. In 1993 IWDAFLBUWDT was totally a thing.
DOGE Report: A little light work on World War 1990: Thatcher's War yesterday. We read through the opening chapter, taking place the night the war breaks out, and did some fixing. There are either too many scenes or not enough. We'll be reading the MS all week.
We're trying to up out Substack notes game. It's a thing. We shrug in the most Mediterranean way possible.
*Horrible fact. Canadians didn't love Pierre Poilievre. They just hated Justin. For what it's worth Canadian rite-Twitter is out in force today.
