Good morning, reader(s) of Stroock's Books.
We barbequed hamburgers yesterday in the cool evening breeze. Our first BBQ of the spring. So far no gout.
Oh boy do we have a doozy of a ten-year anniversary next week. An absolute banger! This came right after our horrifying gout attack and diagnoses. No wonder we went nuclear. Ef them. Wednesday. This is post 5997, by the way.
War Night: Stories of the Great Nuclear War of 1975, continues rolling and is #10 in its Amazon category* this morning. War Night hasn't even popped yet in Britain, Canada, Australia, or Europe. If your reading War Night, would you post in comments what you think is A-the best story, and B-the worst story.
Ynet reports, 'ADL: Antisemitic incidents in US reach all-time high for fourth consecutive year...With 9,354 cases of harassment, assault and vandalism, 2024 marks worst year for antisemitism in US history; over half of incidents tied to anti-Israel sentiment, with sharp spikes on campuses and at rallies after October 7 Hamas attack.'
To our knowledge there's been no Juden Hass around here. The most we can say is maybe we got a dirty look at the gym. Maybe. We do encounter these yahoos on Substack. There's an Iranian simp, a Kraut lefty (of course), the rest are right leaning neo-isolationist types - trolls mostly. The trolls are easy enough to deal with. We've blocked and reported a few. 'When you were 13 some pretty little Jewish girl broke your heart, I bet. What was her name?' we like to quip. It's the leftist/Islamist types that worry us.
Reminder, in Trump's war on campus Juden-Hass, the Democrat party stands with Harvard. Vance- you'll never get the Dems to support Hamas flag waving campus kooks. Trump- hold my diet coke. Harvard has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration. Good...claps hands...good.
Related, sort of. Last week we asked if Churchill is great and if so, how? We actually got a pretty good answer in this excellent article by Edward Luttwak, comparing Netanyahu to Churchill. The Dave Smith/Douglas Murray debate on Joe Rogan prompted the question for us. People are still going on about it. We agreed with Murray 100 percent on points, but think he was dead wrong to keep differing to expertise and insisting Smith should 'go to Gaza' as Murray had. 'You've never been?' he mocked. We've never been to Gaza either but agree with Murray. Are we seeing the logical fallacy here? After the last five years, this blog most definitely does not trust the experts.
Kurt Schlichter is weighing in on Thursday.
Yesterday we dug up our old graduate school Revolutionary War files. We realized we've published more on the American Revolution then we thought. We published the afore mentioned Otho Holland Williams article, an article on the strategy and tactics of the war, an article on Whigs in parliament, an article on William Washington, and an article on Banastre Tarleton. Two large papers remain outstanding. These are a 5,000 word piece on the Battle of Monmouth, and a 6,000 word piece on General Nathanael Greene.
In our article search we got a further look at our old bibliography. For reading on the Revolution in the south, we also recommend The Cowpens-Guilford Courthouse Campaign by Burke Davis, and Walter Edgar's Partisans & Redcoats: The Southern Conflict that Turned the Tide of the Revolution. Edgar's work is all about the Patriots and Loyalists fighting partisan war in the Carolina Backcountry. The Patriot but for real.
DOGE Report: Yesterday we read through the Thatcher's War interlude NYC chapter, edited all scenes and added another. The chapter is really starting to take shape. Things are going swimmingly. The rough will be done this week, after which we must needs step away.
*Actually, War Night has three Amazon categories...Alternate History (#10) Alternate History Science Fiction (#25) and Post Apocalyptic Fiction (#100).
