AC Wars Episode VIII: The Last Technician

This is in fact, the 8th day we're dealing with our air conditioning issue.

We called dispatch at 9:30 AM yesterday, an hour and a half into the appointment window. 'Oh,' said dispatch. 'We have to reschedule. The technician called in sick.'

Needless to say we had a frank and colorful conversation with dispatch. After that they rescheduled us for 2-6 PM today. 'Is there anything else I can do for you?' dispatch asked. 'Yes,' we replied, 'But saying so would be rude.'

Dispatch called us about 6:30 last night. In our naivete we thought, 'A window opened up and a tech is on the way. There's no way they're gonna reschedule again.' Go ahead and laugh. We told dispatch that the appointment was between 2-6 on Thursday and we expect your company to honor it.

At roughly this point Mrs. Stroock, who has been watching us get angrier and angrier on the phone twice a day with these numbskulls, tag teamed in. Bear in mind our dear wife does customer service for a living. It was like watching a precision strike on an underground nuclear facility. We almost felt sorry for those bastards. Almost.

They're coming between 2-6 today, they claim.

This is not how we wanted to spend the first week of summer, the first week where we didn't have anything to do, or plan for, or worry about. The heat wave breaks today, with highs only in the mid-80s. But simply cancelling and finding someone else now that the rush is over isn't good enough anymore. Those fuckers are gonna honor their commitment.

So twitcheth the eye. So twitcheth the man.

We get the sense that the war in the Middle East is winding down, which is easy to say when you're not driving a tank in Gaza (seven IDF soldiers killed yesterday) or waiting to hear about a kidnapped loved one. But reader(s) will get our point. Also, beware complacency. Beware victory disease. This blog remembers Mission Accomplished.

For those wondering, and we haven't in at least two weeks, the 12 Day War gives Bibi and the Coalition a slight boost. Neither side wins a majority but Likud actually tops Naftali Bennett's hypothetical party 28 seats to 24. This is a problem for Bennett because traditionally (but not always) the president asks the party that wins the most seats to form the government. Gee, Bibi in negotiations, not the briar patch, he'd exclaim. Exit question: does Bennett see Bibi gaining strength and decide, not now?

DOGE report: Yesterday our mind wasn't necessarily on World War 1990: The Managua Campaign. But we tweaked a National Guard scene and improved the Battle of Los Banos set up. Watch out for Mexican marines.
