Good morning reader(s) of Stroock's Books and happy Guy Fawkes Day, which seems appropriate.
A bloodbath for the GOP last night. And as the New Jersey Globe says about Jack vs Mikie, not even close, 56-43. Democrats even did well here in Bridgewater. This should kill any speculation (which we never believed) that the GOP could flip New Jersey. Dems turned out en-mass to sock it to Trump. As proven by Jay Jones' election in Virginia, if you're a Dem, Dems will vote for you no matter what. If Dems can turn out their base in 2025, they can turn out their base in 2026. Trump and the GOP have work to do.
New Jersey, Virginia, NYC, these may have been home wins for the Dems, but they were decisive home wins. And the Dems won everywhere else too. Dems should be feeling great this morning. GOPs should be feeling very bad with a healthy dose of dread. The GOP ain't gonna gerrymander its way to victory in 2026. You best deliver results.
Decades of scolding by the Anti-Defamation League couldn't stop the rise of Mamdani and his ilk. How did screaming about The Passion of the Christ work out, guys? While the ADL was pestering Mel Gibson, millions of Muslims and Third Worlders came to America. Read this Jonathan Tobin piece. Read it! The Golden Age of Jews in America is over.
And Tobin points out, 'Conservatives are at least struggling to fend off the efforts of Jew-haters like former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and even more hateful figures on that end of the spectrum to establish themselves and their ideas as legitimate on the right.' That fight becomes more important now. We've been reluctant to cast out Tucker and the like. We were there for the defenestration of Pat Buchanan 25 years ago. We just thought Pat was wrong. Turns out Pat was right about a lot of things. The likes of Tucker and Candace Owens aren't just wrong. They're nuts.
The Jerusalem Post tells us that 63 percent of NYC Jews voted for disgraced New York State governor Andew Cuomo.* Which is remarkable after he waged war on the state's Jewish community. Thirty-three percent of NYC Jews voted for Mamdani, which is also remarkable. Those are the Reform Jews, the secular, the Larry David types. Reminder, under no circumstances would we have voted for Killer Andy C.
On the bright side, Killer Andy C. has been humiliated for a third time. The man went from being Resistance Theatre's biggest star during Trump's first
As for ourselves we're going to don a cloak and wander the desert in search of answers and the truth. Naaa...while we're surprised at the magnitude of the Dem's victory, we're not surprised at the victory. Circumstances favored them. The election in 2026 will be run under different circumstances. So everyone calm down, except for NYC Jews. You people run for your lives.
We find ourselves actually in a few FB arguments this morning. Baaah! Never a good thing.
New York Sports suck hole....the New York Jets didn't need Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams to be 1-7. Good riddance.
What Will's Watching: We weren't glued to election coverage last night, for once. Instead we watched Sully. Tom Hanks is the finest actor of his generation. The crash in the Hudson sequences were surreal for us, as we've been in the middle of the Hudson many times in our life, driving the George Washington Bridge, that is. And we kind of dug the abrupt ending, actually. 4/4.
DOGE Report: Let's get back to work here. We're smoothing out the TW concluding chapter and trying to figure out which foreign leaders we should show. After that...we're just about done.
*We voted for his dad once. No regrets.
