Christmas, the Smoldering Aftermath

Good morning Stroock's Books, and happy Boxing Day to our Imperial and Commonwealth reader(s), except the Canadians. They suck. Seriously, check out Small Dead Animals. That place is a mess. We're not optimistic. As for the Conservative Opposition, what Opposition?

Boxing Day once was a Stroock family tradition, where the family would gather at our parent's house and open presents. Another tradition gone [Your family last got together for boxing day in 2022-Ed]. Okay, so the tradition is not quite dead.

We had a pleasant enough Christmas afternoon at our sister's house, jawing with our nephews and niece, brother-in-law, and one of his brothers. The menfolk stayed at the dining room table while the womenfolk cleaned up, and then retired to the sitting room for drinks.

Our dad left at about 5. We headed home about 6. The drive takes us on 95, across the northern tip of Manhattan, over the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey. From there we remain on 95, driving south, parallel to Manhattan, which on the 25th is lit up like a Christmas tree. We pass Newark and Newark International Airport and then take 78 for the hinterlands of New Jersey. The drive is usually an hour +.

The above described drive is not unpleasant, and something of a tradition now too. We listened to the Vikings/Lions game on the radio. An NFL game is always good company on a longish nighttime drive. The game was background noise, really. As we pondered the questions we pondered yesterday.

We're supposed to get 3-6 inches of snow this afternoon into tomorrow. We should hit the gym this morning. Grocery store too.

Ah, the first night of Kwanzaa. Is it this blog, or is the enforced Kwanzaa celebration obnoxiousness dying down? To quote our late grandfather, 'Those sons-of-bitches stole the menorah'. Quite right. Kwanzaa is not a thing. It's faker than the fakest greeting card company invented holiday. And it's offensive that anyone would include Kwanzaa with Christmas and Chanukah best wishes.

It's a Festivus Miracle. Legal Insurrection tells us, 'Israel is embarking on a multi-billion-dollar plan to build an independent defense industry to counter potential weapons embargoes from the U.S. or European allies...' The Israelis will spend $110 billion over the next decade. Would be wise. President Vance would merely try to temper Israeli ops. President Ocasio-Cortez would actively hinder and undermine the Jews.

Overall, it feels good to be home. But tomorrow, the assessments begin.
