Midweek Irish Post

Good afternoon, Stroock's Books midweekers, and happy Wednesday.

Four days in a row at the gym, because why not? Stretching, a couple of hundred pushups, tension bands, rope pully, rowing machine. Today we rest.

We watched an episode of Derry Girls last night in which they made light of Marching Season and army checkpoints. The protestant marching was more of a nuisance than a threat. Huh. We learned the Irish use 'cracker' as a compliment. 'Why he's just a cracker chef' or 'Isn't that just cracker,' or 'It's craic, it is'. Yes that's how they spell it. Huh again.

DOGE Report: We finished the World War 1990: Whatever it's Called read through. That's it. That's all we can do. Actually, we'll go back over the final two chapters today, just in case. But really, that's it. Oh, and there's a few items and notes we must needs put in. Someone needs to say 'cracker'. But seriously, that's it. Oh! We just thought of one scene we should write.

Remarks: World War 1990: Whatever it's Called is 65,000 words. It's a tight novel, actually with one chapter building on the other till bam!: Trouble in Derry [Londonderry-Ed]. The opening, middle, and final chapters show various world leaders, including leaders that have nothing to do with Ireland. Saddam, Slobo for instance. Thus we set the stage for future World War 1990 aftermath novels.

For a time we worried that the World War 1990 series is supposed to be about titanic clashes of American and Soviet forces, in which Will smashes his action figures together. This novel is about tiny paramilitaries chasing one another around a tiny corner of a tiny nation on the butt end of the English-speaking world. But we learned to stop worrying and love the plot. We always says, we says, we want differentiation between World War 1990 novels. Well, this novel differentiates.

We broke the novel in two. We agonized over the decision, but clearly decided right. See above remarks. Waiting for us are 34,000 words about Britian invading Ireland. We really should be able to wrap that one up in no time.
