Sgt. Rock comes out

We are wrapping up the Tornado squadron attack scene. Which scene should we write after that? The problem is each sequence must differentiate a little. Otherwise it's just more NATO jets flying through curtains of flack and blowing stuff up. Readers may think they want seven Death Star trench attack scenes, but we assure you all, that would get old. Remember, we are among the best there is at what we do. 

On a whim we looked at The Great Salvation of 1976, which Word tells us we hadn't cracked open since late May. After ten pages we are pleased with what we see. We also got inspiration for a pair of scenes we must needs write up front. One features the British cabinet discussing the state of things, the other a Paul Harvey radio talk. 

Mark Steyn is appropriately apocalyptic. They say Superman is gay. What isn't gay these days? Boooorrrriiiiiing! Steyn writes that a hyperspecialized America is oddly sexless. This is a shrewd observation. We have a 14 year old, and dropping her off at school we see a lot of teenaged girls dressed like middle aged lesbians. This wasn't the case when I was a HS sub in the 2000s or a college prof in the 2010s.

Anyway, back in the 80's we liked Sgt. Rock and GI-Joe. As we write that sentence it occurs to us that someone is already writing up a gay Sgt. Rock reboot, Sgt. Rock asks and tells. My late FB friend Kathy Shaidle used to complain that conservatives shake their heads at PC madness and move on rather than doing something about it. But we have no idea what to do about it. Okay we've bought a few comics from Vox Day's Arkhaven. It's a start.

What Will's Watching: Dave Chappelle, the Closer. Chappelle's is actually a great idea for a SF novel. Heh. Space Jews. You don't mean he's implying...why yes, yes he is. Tough. That's the gig my fellow Israelites. Man, does Chappelle ever know how to deliver a joke. Also, it's nice to see Netflix not cave to a pod of un-fuckable land whales. 4/4

It's Tuesday and that Means it's Soylent Green Day

Election day in Georgia. Fuck all if we know what's going to happen. Our best guess is that the GOP blows it, but who knows?  Polls had Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins in tight races, and both won easily. Ronna McDaniel and the RNC did do pretty good in November. We'll see what lessons they've learned and applied since. It'll be a mess, we think and will take a few weeks to sort out. Exit question, does it even matter and do we care?

Working on The Great Nuclear War of 1975 yesterday, we debated if we needed a new chapter showing a few places around the world during the first 48 hours of the war. We already do this for America in the prologue, where people see Air Force One in various places, Maryland, Key West, Colorado...Perhaps we should breakup those scenes with the international scenes? Haig in Europe, Thatcher being picked up by the RAF, etc etc. A then B. A then B. Hmmmm. Thoughts?

Mark Steyn reposted his old review of the sci-fi dystopian film/novel Children of Men. He's highly critical of the film adaptation of P.D. James' novel, and we largely agree with him. Still we enjoy the film on its own merits. The scenario presented is an original dystopian work, the best bit of world building since Soylent Green, itself a classic. Soylent Green is based on Harry Harrison's Make Room, Make Room. The book is actually better than the movie which has serious flaws. The plot is a boring police procedural and the 'scoops' are silly. But like CoM, the world of Soylent Green it is horrifying.  

Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire are producing movies now.  Here's the trailer for their first film. Ace seems optimistic. We we're wondering how Shapiro could pull this off, then we remembered he's an L.A. guy.* Surely an L.A. Jew knows where to get some entertainment startup capitol. This is what it takes.
