God this gives us nightmares.
It's Bush vs Gore all over again.
Younger readers who've heard of the Florida Recount probably don't understand how flatfooted the whole recount fiasco caught the Bush Campaign. Algore was in his limo on his way to make his concession speech when they stopped him becuase, voila, thousands of ballots were being found and counted in Broward and Palm Beach county. Sound familiar? Algore actually called Bush and 'unconceded' and nearly litigated his way into the White House.
Not this time, punk.
Governor Rick Scott and the GOP were prepared. They screamed about Broward and Palm Beach counties not recording votes. Scott held a presser and did not mince words, calling out election fraud. The GOP retained a high powered law firm that included former solicitor general Ted Olson. And best of all, the morning after the attempted fraud began, protestors showed up at the Broward County office shouting, 'Lock her up!'
Finally all the counties have reported, and rather than a massive swing toward Nelson and Gillum, Scott and DeSantis still have the lead. They most likely will retain the lead after the recount.
Well played, sirs.

There will be no Blue Wave.
An interesting and tough Senate race in Florida this year, where governor Rick Scott is challenging incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson. These are two giants of Florida politics and the race should be a titanic clash.
Rick Scott may turn the race into a rout.
Via Politico we learn of Scott's impressive efforts within Florida's Hispanic community. Scott speaks Spanish, does weekly interviews with Spanish language media, has a Spanish language website, etc, etc. Most interestingly:
Rick Scott may turn the race into a rout.
There’s a lot higher awareness of Rick Scott. He’s got much higher name recognition. And people associate him with trying to do something for Puerto Rico,” said Marcos Vilar, director for United for Progress PAC, which had the focus groups conducted for it by the polling firm Latino Decisions.
Bill Nelson has very little name recognition,” Vilar said. “The people who know him don’t know what he’s done. They don’t know him in the community. They don’t see him out to the community as much.
We thought this seat would be a tough pickup for the GOP. Nelson has been around a long time and is well thought of and supposedly a conservative Democrat*.
So we went over to RCP and checked out their Florida polls. Sure enough the last two senate polls show Scott in the lead.
There will be no blue wave.
*We scoff at the idea.
