In Which Will sets himself up for Cancellation

We went out and voted for Hirsch Singh in the GOP gubernatorial primary. Turnout by our eye was low. The Italian guy won. Oh well. One thing, he came to the Bridgewater anti-lockdown protest and gave a good speech, on point, and it lasted about a minute. The mayor went on and on.

This blog wants to make one thing clear about the 211th Armored Cavalry Regiment. They're more or less ok with a black man taking charge. It's Colonel Dawson, Chicago, who's not thrilled with the situation.  And the Sgt. Major is a black man who doesn't like Yankees, doesn't like them at all. His father always said they just came down south to make trouble...See how we're shifting the paradigm there? Look at us being edgy as all hell.

A loyal reader makes some good points about the Belgian Army and worries about 'being that guy'. Never worry about 'being that guy', we're good. 'That guy', is the one who left a long comment here about how HMS Warrior couldn't possibly be a good steam ram, even though the designer of HMS Warrior said that though not designed to be a steam ram, it could be a steam ram. Also, 'that guy' is the guy who wants to tell you how Australian F-18s weren't HARM capable...Rivet Counters, my colleague James Young once called them.  Great recall on Nederland, BTW. We were keeping that in mind. There will be some scene where a Belgian General has gathered what's left of the Belgian Army and gives the sitrep. Two divisions + a para regiment.

From time to time a man likes to look back. We've been thinking about what we were doing 20 years ago, living in Northern Virginia, preparing to move to New Jersey, and going back to school at American Military University, online, with a dial up.* To prep we read Archer Jones' history of war and then Hans Delbruck**, all four books. Wait, cavalry can't break heavy infantry? That summer, because we were mad, just mad we tell you, we read David Chandler's The Campaigns of Napoleon. We read the whole damn thing, all 1200 pages. Fool. We haven't looked at the Napoleonic Wars since.

We lived in a large condo complex called Fairlington Village, originally built during WWII. The complex had a half dozen pools and a couple of summers previous we ran one of them. Now we were going to the pool everyday to study. We'd sit in a lounge chair and work on the reading assignments. We were reading Adrian Goldsworthy's new book about the Punic Wars. That semester we'd write a term paper about Scipio Africanus and later turn it into a magazine article. We are very good at what we do.

*Which we were also using to illegally download music on Napster. Ask your older half-brother, Millennials.

** Watch this. WTF?

Hey Jersey!

A good gym day on the machines yesterday. And we had to make ourselves go. One always feels better having gone.

A great day of writing too. We cranked out that East German scene no problem. Guttentag, East German 9th Panzer Division. We've got the division's CO and the COs of the four principle regiments. Kraut tossers. There's also a few paragraphs describing their routing of a pair of Belgian army divisions.

We're also going to do an introductory 'shootaround' where one sees the status of the Belgian army, the Danish army etc etc...through their commanding general giving a sitrep to SAUCER.

Today we're doing our southern National Guard ACR. Resolved, we're making them up. Introducing the 211th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Carolinas), the Renegade Rebels. Plot: the HHT's jet got shot down and they pull a new CO from the 2nd Armored Division who survived the Battle of Bremen.  Meet Major DeWayne Dawson, Chicago Illinois, Northwestern, class of 1974. You people know where this is headed. 'Excuse me sir, look at my neck. You see any red?'

We caught some Ben Shapiro yesterday. He took some time to really slam our own governor, Phil Murphy. We've said for a year that Murphy has done ok. Are we wrong? Is this a case of Helsinki Syndrome, as in Helsinki, Sweden? Maybe we just need to reread Terrorist-Hostage/Hostage-Terrorist: A Study in Duality.*

It's primary day here in New Jersey. We think we'll get out to vote. If so, we'll vote for Hirsch Singh, even though the other guy, whose name we're not going to look up to spell, something Italian with a C, is sure to win. Meh. We'd vote for Murphy before the Italian C guy. GOP ennui thy name is Will.

*You better get that reference.
