That's Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler popping up from the metaphorical trench, waving the metaphorical white flag, and walking toward enemy lines over piles of metaphorical bodies left by two months of Antifa metaphorical suicide charges into the Fed's metaphorical machinegun nests. It's a metaphorical Somme.
We are at a loss as to why the Democrats think attaching themselves to and defending these (mostly peaceful) riots was a good idea. You know who don't like riots? Normal people. People who go to work, take care of their lawns, do stuff with their kids. These people don't have the time to riot. Maybe they should find time. The Dems and the media would take note of that. Honestly, these Portland riots look like a thrill. Beats falling asleep on the couch during Survivorman reruns.
Anyway, we guess the Dem's thought Orange Man Bad! and anything Trump was for (in this case not torching Federal buildings) they must be against. There's also the little matter of the party needing to keep the LARPing revolutionaries in their ranks happy. They don't want a repeat of 1968. But we do.
It always comes as a shock to lefty Boomers, but when the police beat the hell out of the hippies at the Chicago Democrat Convention, vast swaths of American society watching, clenched their fists and said 'Beat 'em harder! Give 'em more of the nightstick! Work the upper body!' Same goes for the Hard Hat Riots of 1970.*
This is bad news for Dems. Real bad news.
Remember, in the 1980's Margaret Thatcher did a lot of unpopular things. Thatcher had a base, but she was not necessarily beloved by the rest of the public. The problem for Labour is that they were a lot of unelectable socialist kooks, a freak show, the cantina scene in Star Wars.
And that's where the Dems are today. Unelectable.

We ask, is Portland turning into Fort Sumter? Historical analogies can be dangerous of course, but they often work. Is 9/11 not akin to December 7th? Is the Iraq War not eerily similar to the Philippine Insurrection? Actually my author friend James thinks Portland is more akin to Harper's Ferry. He's a smart man that James.
Another friend of ours made a great point, and it's relatable to today and 1860. He said, 'We're not voting our way out of this.' The Election of 1860 more or less settled the issue of slavery. The GOP was going to isolate the south and let 'em know it. When they one, the South's fate was sealed, leaving with only one option.
We've said since 2017 there is a 100% chance Trump has to send Federal troops to some blue municipality (check) and there's a 1 in 3 chance of civil war. We stand by that. When Trump wins this fall, what other choice will the Dems have? As our friend said, we're not voting out way out of this.

Progressive cities like Minneapolis (ground zero of the George Floyd riots), Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York are defunding the police with predictable results. In all of these cities, police morale is plummeting while retirement applications are soaring. In Chicago, 63 people were shot and 12 were killed last weekend. Then, on Tuesday, 15 people were shot in a Chicago area funeral home. In Denver, police were ordered to stand down as Antifa descended upon a Back the Blue rally. In Bill de Blasio’s New York City, he and the council have slashed a billion dollars from the New York Police Department’s budget. The NYPD has released crime statistics for June and they are not pretty. On the streets, the NYPD has backed off. So far, police have made 40,000 fewer arrests this year compared to 2019. At the same time, murders increased by 30% over June of last year. June also saw a 51% increase in auto-thefts and a 118% increase in burglaries. Over the course of nine days, 112 people were shot in Bill De Blasio’s New York. And so, a young generation of New Yorkers, who grew up in the city of Giuliani and Bloomberg’s aggressive Stop and Frisk policing and have zero street smarts, must adapt to life in high-crime urban areas.

This blog has long predicted that before he leaves office in 2025 President Trump will have to send Federal troops to a liberal jurisdiction to enforce the law. This blog even predicted Portland.
Well now it's happening after nearly two months of riots at the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse. Mayor Ted Wheeler has even joined Antifa in the streets.
We suppose one has to take a stand, who doesn't like seeing commie agitators get their heads bashed in? Hilariously, Wheeler got teargassed last night.
But at this point we'd rather see Trump remove the Feds from the streets, take down the barricades and open the courthouse to the mob. Let it burn. The whole city too.
